Fierceness all the way

I have always loved the word fierce, but you know where I have learned it from? America's Next Top Model. Yes, that show on tv. Ever since I have loved that word but I am unsure whether I truly understand its meaning.

The show was great and I have been a fan since it came out in 2003. I did not follow it after Cycle 19. However, the word fierce was used most of the time in the show, and I have incorporated it into my vocabulary. Fierce according to dictionary.com means, "having or displaying an intense or ferocious aggressiveness" or "showing a heartfelt and powerful intensity."

Fierceness all the way

If you look at the synonyms of the word fierce, it sounds mean such as aggressive, competitive, untamed, cutthroat, forceful, ferocious, intense and others. While on the show, it means you have to show intensity with your eyes, your poses, and your facial expressions. You have to tell a story. You have to be engaged. During the show, my interpretation of the word fierce is synonymous with passion, power and fire.

Fierce can have a negative connotation as it can be the word that describes animals in the wild where they can be savage, wild and threatening. Meanwhile, fierce if you are going to relate it to a person can have a wonderful meaning. I said the words passion, power and fire. Those three words scream confidence, resilience and conviction. I do not know why I have all these three words going on in my head. However, to make the word fierce relatable and applicable to our daily lives, we have to focus on the other meanings of fierce. Certainly do not want to be called predatory or murderous when they have a negative connotation. So I will focus on the good definitions of fierce.

Fierceness is empowering and being fierce can mean something like standing your ground when things are not going your way. I feel like fierceness should be a virtue that we need to have. Crucial to fighting the odds that we encounter in our lives, being fierce is powerful. You have to lit up that fire in you where you need to continue fighting for what you want and what you deserve. The hardships that we experience are also providing us opportunities to grow. In this way, you are also making yourself better and more resilient. The road may be long, but we have to be fierce all the way.

Being fierce is knowing your strengths and weaknesses. Move towards finding and enhancing those abilities that you have. Find your passion, look for things that excite you. At the same time, recognizing what your limits are. I know for myself that I cannot draw like my friends but I am an artist myself because I sing. Being something else does not mean you have to have everything or cover every aspect of certain expertise. Having one is enough and boosts that. Strengthen your skill by building upon it. If you are a singer, and you do not play any instrument, starting picking up a guitar or a ukelele. For others, it could be starting a course or doing the first step towards a dream.

Become fiercely kind, fiercely beautiful and fiercely unique.

Fierceness comes with self-respect. We should be willing to provide ourselves with the respect that we deserve. It is by knowing that at times we desperately need a break and a time to ourselves. All these self-care practices out there should be utilized. Critically examining that our lives can be hectic but additionally providing ourselves with the compassion we need by not being harsh to ourselves. We make mistakes. We pick ourselves up and move on. We should not be carrying personal resentments and guilt. Bestow yourself grace and manage some personal self-inventory when you need some time to ponder. Be more aware of your feelings and surroundings. Attain that inner peace and be happy. Do not forget setting an example out there and also by supporting others to inevitably become fiercely kind, fiercely beautiful and fiercely unique people. Those things can just give you the superpower you need to get through the harsh times.

According to Kyra O' Connor, there are billion different ways to be fierce. Be one. I salute you, fierce people, out there. Show that power not only in your eyes but in your actions.
